Program Description
As people with HIV (PWH) live longer, the burden of osteoporosis and fracture risk is rising—often occurring a decade earlier than in the general population. Join MATEC-WI for the 2025 Advanced Clinical Workshop: Bone Health and HIV, during which Dr. Elaine Pelley will equip HIV care providers with practical, evidence-based strategies to assess and optimize bone health across the lifespan. Participants will learn how to integrate early screening, supplementation, and ART regimen adjustments into routine care, while also managing coexisting risk factors such as endocrine disorders and hepatitis C. The workshop will also provide a comprehensive review of pharmacologic options for osteoporosis with guidance on their use in the context of HIV. This interactive session is designed to enhance clinical decision-making and improve long-term musculoskeletal outcomes in PWH.
Program Objectives
- Summarize the increasing need to address bone health in patients with HIV/AIDS
- Identify practical tips and strategies for optimizing bone health across the lifespan
- Select the pharmacologic options for osteoporosis, including clinical considerations of the use of each in the care of patients
